Brief Project Description
The SUNY Health Science Center, Brooklyn, consists of a series of medical, academic and administrative buildings on the north side of Lenox Road in Brooklyn, with administrative and student buildings on the south side of the street. The medical, academic and administrative buildings on the north side of the street are served by a Lucent Definity PBX, a high speed data communications network and a video distribution system.

In 1997 the Center decided to extend the voice, data and video services across the street to the residential facilities and student life areas. Compass Consulting was engaged through a competitive bidding process to assist the Center in planning and implementing the first phase of this project which consisted of running fiber optic cable across the street and providing telephone and data services from the Definity system and the campus network to the administrative offices. That phase of the project has been completed. Fiber is now in place under Lenox Road, a shelf of the Definity system is installed in the basement of one of the residence halls, and Ethernet connections have been made to the administrative offices in the student center.
